Handmade Moonlight Teardrop Bird Feeder
Fired to over 1220°C and durable enough to withstand harsh weather in the garden.
We have made the original mould ourselves and cast the mould with liquid stoneware slip. The Moonlight is different to our standard teardrops — instead of painting a base colour onto the clay, the colour is mixed into the stoneware itself before casting, giving the feeder its deep black base tone right through the body of the clay. We then apply our normal glaze over the top and fire it again to 1220°C, which vitrifies and strengthens the clay and creates beautiful, unpredictable and unique glaze finishes. No two will ever be the same.
This process is significantly more difficult and time-consuming than our standard teardrops, with a higher rejection rate during firing — which is reflected in the price.
A strong metal hook is embedded into the clay early on in the casting process and fired into the piece for the utmost stability.
Measures 25cm in height and 13cm in width.
Small hole has a 5cm diameter opening.
Large hole has a 8cm diameter opening.
We have put 3 holes in the bottom to drain out any rain water that may find its way inside.
.. and YES, they do work.. we have tested ourselves and little birds, robins, blue tits, etc love them!
